This image was taken during a Contest Capture session for Frank’s 2026 IAPLC layout, Fading Lights. Contest Capture is a specialized photography service created for aquascapers preparing submissions for the IAPLC. Every session focuses on presenting the aquarium exactly as the artist intended, with careful attention to lighting, reflections, colour accuracy, and the natural behaviour of the livestock.

Contest Capture Session
Contest Capture is Buiscape's dedicated photography service for competition aquascapes. A typical session lasts 1 to 2 hours, allowing time to fine-tune the presentation of the aquarium, minimize reflections, wait for suspended particles to settle, and patiently capture the fish in a natural, balanced composition.
For many aquascapers, the official contest photograph is the final expression of months, and sometimes years, of planning, planting, trimming, and maintenance. Once a layout reaches its peak, it may only remain in that condition for a short period before continuing to grow and change. The contest image becomes the permanent record of that achievement and is often the only way judges and the wider aquascaping community will ever experience the work.
Contest Capture is designed to preserve that moment faithfully, creating an image that reflects the true character, atmosphere, and craftsmanship of the aquascape.
