Aquatic Terrarium Workshop at Allan Gardens [April 19, 2026]
Workshop Overview
Buiscape and artist Jackson Carey invite you to a collaborative public workshop inside the historic conservatories of Allan Gardens in Toronto.
Set within the lush atmosphere of the Children’s Conservatory, this hands-on session guides participants through the design and construction of a self-contained aquatic terrarium — a miniature living ecosystem inspired by the quiet beauty of shoreline landscapes.
Over the course of two immersive hours, you’ll work with a curated selection of aquatic, terrestrial, and floating plant species, paired with natural volcanic stone and foundational layering techniques. Together, we’ll explore structure, balance, moisture control, and composition, combining artistic intuition with ecological understanding.
No prior experience is required. Whether you’re new to planted ecosystems or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop offers space to experiment, refine your eye, and create something lasting.
All materials are provided. Herbal tea will be served as we build, reflect, and connect through nature and design.
